Description

The OWE 2/C capacitive leak detector JOLA is suitable for use in areas where a quick and automatic alarm is required in the event of a leak.
The detectors can only be used in a temperature range between -20 °C and +60 °C, but despite the specified temperature range, use above freezing is recommended.

  • with built-in cable break monitoring
  • to indicate the presence of electrically non-conductive liquids of low viscosity on the floor of normally dry collecting spaces or sumps, for example to indicate the presence of fuel oil on the floor of a normally dry collecting space or in a sump below a fuel oil burner

Only one capacitive sensor CPE, OWE 2/C or COW is designed for connection to the Leckmaster 101 capacitive relay. Up to 5 capacitive sensors can be connected to the Leckmaster 155 capacitive relay.

The OWE 2/C and COW sensors can be installed either:

  • upright on the floor (with optional stand provided by Jola) or
  • freely suspended by a cable above the floor.

CPE, OWE 2/C and COW sensors should only be used in a normally dry environment – e.g. in normally dry collection tanks or collection tubs.

Mode of operation

The capacitive measuring principle is mainly used to detect electrically non-conductive (insulating) liquids, but can also be used to detect electrically conductive liquids. Electrically non-conductive liquids are usually organic liquids such as oils and solvents.

The electrode assembly is a capacitor and the dielectric is air or liquid. The dielectric constant of air is 1. The dielectric constant of the liquid to be detected is higher. For our capacitive sensors, the dielectric constant must be greater than 2 (CPE type) or 1.8 (OWE 2/C and COW types).

The capacitive leak detector recognises a change in the dielectric constant of the measuring capacitor and an alarm signal is triggered. The design of the measuring capacitor allows direct mounting on the ground and generally excludes the possibility of interference effects due to different substrates.

Features of OWE 2/C

  • Housing: PP and cast resin
  • electrical connection: TPK cable, 2X0,75 mm2, length 5 m, on request: longer, PTFE
  • Sensitive elements: 2 outer gold-plated capacitor plates and 1 double-sided inner gold-plated capacitor plate form 2 detection capacitors
  • Protection class: IP65
  • response height from the bottom edge of the housing: ≥ 12 mm (depending on the dielectric constant of the liquid)
  • min. required dielectric constant of the liquid to be detected: 1,8
  • temperature range: – 20 °C to + 60 °C
  • max. Connection cable length: 1,000 m between sensor and relay
  • Optional stainless steel mounting stand included

Use

All organic and inorganic liquids with specific dielectric constants between 2 (CPE) or 1.8 (OWE 2/C and COW) and 109.

It is a prerequisite that these fluids, depending on the ambient temperature, are present in the liquid and that the sensors will be sufficiently humidified.

  • Using the OWE 2/C capacitive sensor to detect a liquid leak at the lowest point (groove in the picture) of the sump room
