Description
PyroUSB Infrared (IR) temperature sensor configurable via PC with current output, ideal for use in factories or at test points.
PyroUSB infrared sensors measure temperatures from -40 °C to 2000 °C accurately and consistently, with an outstanding response time of 200 ms. The 4 … 20 mA output is compatible with almost any indicator, controller, recorder or data logger, without the need for a special interface or signal conditioning.
A choice of measurement wavelengths is available for different applications.

Examples of use
Steel industry
The short-wavelength PUA2 provides more accurate readings on reflective metal surfaces such as iron and steel. Applications include general low temperature steel strip temperature measurements, steel temperature measurements before the preheating furnace and hot-roller boiler temperatures.
Extrusion, forging and casting
PUA2 models are ideal for measuring the temperature of steel dies and workpieces in extrusion, forging and casting.
Food industry
Measure the temperature of hot food products in glass containers from 45 °C to 300 °C with the PyroUSB PUA2 models. The sensor measures through the glass; readings can be taken on-line without interrupting production.
Brake testing
PyroUSB PUA2 sensors allow non-contact temperature measurement of ceramic, carbon, iron and steel brake discs between 45 °C and 2000 °C on braking devices.
Wind energy industry
PUA2 models can monitor the surface temperature of the brake plates in wind turbines to help warn of overheating and optimise cooling cycles. PUA8 models measure reflective parts of the turbine such as gearbox housings and bearings. Non-contact infrared sensors can monitor the temperature of vibrating parts while being completely isolated from vibration.
Bearings, gearboxes and shafts
Non-contact temperature measurement of bare steel surfaces: the PyroUSB PUA2 is less sensitive to errors caused by reflections than long-wave sensors.
Furnaces
The high temperature capability of the PyroUSB PUA2 is ideal for measuring the temperature of hot objects in furnaces, including heat treatment furnaces in steelworks.
Pipe coatings
Measurement of the temperature of a tube heated by induction or in a furnace during the preheating phase before coating (using model PUA2).
Paper industry
PUA2 models: monitoring the surface temperature of hot steel rolls, such as the roll temperature in a steam-heated dryer for paper production. PUA8 models: accurate paper temperature measurement is easy even at very low temperatures.
