Description
The SON 3 M/ST electrode for special JOLA applications is used to automatically control the fluid in a pump or solenoid valve. The electrodes monitor the level of the liquids, sending a signal to an electronic relay when they come into contact with the liquid. SON 3 M/ST can be used as a level control, level indication, limit level detection, as a spill protection or as an overfill protection.
before use, we recommend you consult the datasheet under the Documentation tab.
Mode of operation
The electrodes are used for automatic control of pumps or solenoid valves and for overflow or drying protection in wells or tanks with conductive liquids. The liquid level is controlled by electrodes that give commands to switch to an electronic relay when they come into contact with the liquid. For a two-point control system, you need two control electrodes and one earth electrode. If you only want to signal the liquid level, the E1 control electrode and the earth electrode will be sufficient. Instead of a ground electrode, you can also use the conductive metal wall of the tank as a ground connection. However, in all cases we recommend using a separate earthing electrode.
Recommendations for the use of control electrodes
The conductive fluid to be monitored shall have a specific conductivity of min. 50 µS/cm. The specific conductivity of tap water is usually set in the range 100 µS/cm to 1,000 µS/cm.
We advise against the use of electrodes:
- in non-conductive liquids (e.g. mineral oils);
- in mushy or viscous liquids;
- in liquids that tend to foam (e.g. beer, soda, etc.)
- in liquids with high steam and condensate formation (e.g. at elevated temperatures);
- in liquids with a tendency to precipitate (e.g. calcareous milk, oily waste water, etc.);
- in liquids with solid particles (e.g. pieces of wood, debris, etc.).
Electrical connection
We recommend using standard installation cables (e.g. NYM 2 x 1.5 mm2 or 3 x 1.5 mm2) to connect the electrode to the electrode relay. Do not use telephone cords or heavily coiled bells.
