Solutions for measuring relative humidity and other parameters in meteorological and other applications
In meteorology, the accuracy of measurement data is crucial for accurate weather forecasting and climate research. Rotronic humidity and temperature sensors have an excellent reputation for delivering precise results even in the most demanding environments, especially where high humidity and low temperatures prevail. The product range offers high performance and a wide range of configurations to suit every application, and in particular provides solutions for precision measurements in meteorology.
Even the best sensors measure inaccurately if the conditions on the sensor are not representative of the actual climate conditions. Without a suitable weather shield, the sensors will not read correctly. Weathering can affect poorly ventilated shields by creating a microclimate around the sensors, causing measurement errors.
Ventilation shields are therefore used in applications that require a high degree of precision. High-accuracy measurements are even more important for energy optimisation in HVAC applications. The more accurate the measurements, the smaller the control errors and the greater the energy savings.
Rotronic meteorological sensors combined with ventilated weather and radiation shields ensure the best possible measurement results. They can offer virtually the same performance as a “chilled mirror” meteorological system, as used by many national meteorological organisations, at a significantly lower cost.
Weather shields are crucial in meteorology and have been developed in close collaboration with MeteoSwiss.
HC2A-S3 sensors belong to the HC2A-S sensor family. These measure humidity and temperature and calculate the dew point or frost point. The HC2A-S3H meets the highest demands for precision measurement. The same applies to the HC2A-S3A , but with a different filter.
HC2-S (3) – heated sensors are suitable for use where high humidity prevails. Under such conditions, conventional sensors can become “coated” with condensation and thus emit false readings.
The standard MP100A/MP400A fixed sensor combined meteorological sensors (analogue technology) are suitable for humidity and temperature.
Areas of use, applications:
The MP102H and MP402H meteorological transmitters with analogue output and RS-485 interface measure humidity and temperature with the interchangeable HC2A-S3 weather sensor. Temperature measurements can be improved with an external Pt100 sensor in different accuracy classes. The two meteo-converters are compatible with the HC2A-S3 sensor.
Areas of use,applications:
Relative humidity and temperature transmitter HFM53 (3-wire) is designed for fixed installation in outdoor applications and offers high measurement accuracy. Ideal for meteorological applications, it has a robust housing and a connector for the HC2-S3 interchangeable probe.
Weather cap with active ventilation is a type of shield that protects the meteo sensors from weather and radiation. It has RS12T protection with 12 V DC fan and RS24T protection with 24 V DC fan. Developed in collaboration with MeteoSwiss, this state-of-the-art device minimises the effects of thermal radiation on measured humidity and temperature values.
Areas of use,applications:
Weather shields with natural ventilation are used where natural ventilation (wind) provides sufficient air flow, such as measuring stations in the mountains.
