PORTABLE IKT EQUIPMENT FOR AGRI-CULTURE

In collaboration with our Swedish partner, a manufacturer of durable laptops and PDAs, we present their versatility and applicability in agri-culture.

Agricultural work takes place in a variety of working environments and conditions. Not only are farmers, livestock keepers and field workers exposed to different temperature and weather conditions, but they also face obstacles such as mud and water. These conditions pose a number of challenges for portable mobile devices and/or computers. The work is not waiting for the bad weather to clear up – it has to be done.

Rugged mobile devices and laptops our Handheld partners offer the latest innovations in agricultural operations, ensuring you can profitably manage your business. For agri-food users, these handhelds and tablets enable the implementation of irrigation control systems, RFID livestock tracking and many other applications.

Find out below how these robust data collectors help agro-industry/industry workers improve their business while saving time and money.

Soil sampling in agriculture

Soil sampling and precision farming provide vital information to farmers engaged in this new generation of agriculture. This data includes nutrient profiles, fertiliser data, soil type, crop history, topography and irrigation systems – ALL WITH INCREDIBLE EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY! Extremely durable portable ICT equipment for agri-culture – specifically mobile computers – allow workers to collect and input huge amounts of sample data in the field.

Portable ICT equipment for agri-culture can be used for:

  • reading your own measuring tools;
  • fieldwork for specific software applications in the agri-food industry;
  • collecting data with plenty of storage space;
  • photos, maps and visualisations;
  • quickly create reports and transfer data to other computers and servers.

The robust design and durability allow powerful use and long battery life. Users of these portable devices can obtain a sufficient number of samples from the field to accurately estimate the cultivated area (e.g. field) or yield. They don’t need to interrupt the working day to recharge batteries or increase storage space.

Crop processing

For growers and agronomists who want to increase crop yields and the efficiency (fertility) of their farmland, robust mobile devices/computers in the field are indispensable. Observing cropland to identify signs of damage, disease or pest infestation requires technology that is easy to transport and can withstand unpredictable environmental conditions.

The apps on these devices can perform a range of tasks. These include: data collection, recording, GPS navigation, real-time retrieval from Geographic Information Systems ( GIS), communication, detailed reporting and data transfer. State-of-the-art data collection functions allow for extremely fast processing of data (e.g. crop yields) that is both efficient and accurate. And with ruggedness and durability rated against US military requirements, your data will be safe and secure in the field.

Keeping records of crops, cultivated areas and communication tools

The Agricultural Business Management Software (arable farming) enables growers and agronomists to keep detailed records, analyse data and collaborate or communicate better.

With the Agricultural Control App, you can create a detailed profile of your farm on a rugged handheld or PC, including: building/facility and acreage maps (customised), interactive acreage plans, activities, records and lists, as well as financial control tools (generating and sharing detailed reports) and more.

Powerful, robust data collectors enable real-time tracking , monitoring and sharing – with secure digital data storage, great communication options and long life. These features are sure to help you be more productive and efficient.

GIS and mapping in agriculture

Agricultural GIS has wide-ranging implications, not only for individual farming operations, but also for the global agricultural community. Satellites, drones and other GIS data collection tools provide detailed information to regional management systems and web portals. This provides farmers and land managers with key information and details. These include: crop and soil profiles, climate analysis, crop stress, crop health statistics and topography information.

Knowing this information is the key to efficient farming and to maintaining agricultural productivity and profitability.

The latest rugged tablets and laptops allow detailed graphics to be displayed without slowing down. We are talking about the quality of the resolution and the readability of the screen. In addition to high ratings for protection, durability and performance, many handhelds and tablets feature large, easy-to-read displays (even in sunny weather) with powerful, multi-touch screens.

These features provide a simple and modern user experience, offering full protection against weather and external environmental influences.

Plant stock management

At Carlton Plants in Dayton (Oregon-USA), workers use the Algiz 7 hand-held rugged plate to monitor the number of plants in challenging outdoor conditions. Previously, this was done by two workers using pencils and paper to record information on the health and condition of the plants. These sketches included hand-rendered images of the plants, an almost impossible task in the rainy conditions typical of their growing area.

Today, Carlton Plants enters census data directly into the rugged Algiz tablets. They have so far saved a huge amount of time and greatly improved accuracy, which has a major impact on productivity.

Control in pig production

As an example of good practice, we could mention the experts at Newton Pork (Iowa-USA), a pig farming and meat processing company. They use Handheld’s ultra-rugged Nautiz handhelds to control livestock.

Robust data collectors, combined with PigCHAMP pig monitoring software, help workers save time and improve productivity. At the same time, they keep the meat processing industry innovative and competitive.

Food control in the dairy industry

Portable handheld dispensers are an efficient solution for home delivery of milk and/or other local produce. Robust computers in this case significantly reduce administration time and costs, maintain databases, ensure more efficient communication with customers and monitor customer databases to improve targeted advertising.

Special software for food control in the dairy industry, allowing milk delivery staff and their supervisors to manage schedules/schedules, customer data, stock, prices, orders and reporting. It also includes sales analysis and stock reconciliation. Communication capabilities allow secure data transfer to the office or to a central server. The latter improves supply chain transparency and facilitates communication.

Labour supervision in animal husbandry

Portable ICT equipment for agri-culture (rugged handhelds and/or tablets) is an indispensable solution for field monitoring/management of livestock and even horses for workers who use four-wheelers or trucks for their work. This way, they can easily enter all kinds of data for the operations required by the industry. Handheld offers calf rearing software applications that are versatile and easy to use. They contain simple data entry functions and make it easy to scan RFID tags or barcodes. They allow quick entry of data such as sex, weight, breeding method, pregnancy status, vaccination status, castration and marking/chipping. Handhelds and portable computing devices allow you to communicate wirelessly with data from office computers. In doing so, they refer to previously obtained data. They generate detailed reports that can be viewed on your laptop in the field for quick decision-making, or in the office for in-depth analysis.
